Metrology Direct began trading with three staff in January 2000 from a small office in Frampton-upon-Severn, Gloucestershire. In September 2001 the company moved to a 100 sq metre office and showroom in Stroud. Over the following five years the company’s business grew and in October 2006 the operation was moved to its current location on the Waterwells Business Park, Gloucester. In June 2007 Metrology Direct purchased Etamic UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of its primary supplier Hommelwerke GmbH, Germany. In the summer of 2009 the company started its gauge calibration business and was awarded UKAS accreditation for its in-house calibration laboratory in October 2010. Metrology Direct currently occupies a total of 600 sq metres and by the end of 2011 will employ over 20 people.
Since starting trading Metrology Direct’s aim is to provide a comprehensive range of measurement and inspection systems, instruments and related services to manufacturing companies throughout the UK and Ireland. Metrology Direct brings together a broad spectrum of equipment manufacturers from Europe, Japan, the USA and beyond, enabling users, specifiers and buyers to source the majority of their measurement and inspection needs from one supplier. Whether the requirement is for a flexible rule or a fully automated CNC controlled Measuring System, Metrology Direct will have a solution to offer. In addition to standard equipment and systems, Metrology Direct is able to design and build bespoke measurement and inspection solutions for a wide range of applications. Related services include calibration, training and subcontract measurement are also provided.
Metrology Direct’s stated aim is to become the ‘Supplier of Choice’ for measurement, inspection, testing and calibration solutions to UK and Irish manufacturing companies.
